The foundation of a healthy mouth is regular professional care. A dental exam and cleaning appointment is the single most impactful thing you can do for your long-term oral health — catching problems early, removing buildup that home care can’t reach, and giving you and your dentist a clear picture of the state of your oral health. At North Langley Family Dental, we welcome patients of all ages for routine checkups and cleanings in Langley, Walnut Grove, Willowbrook, Fort Langley, and across the Fraser Valley.
Visual examination
Your dentist carefully examines every tooth for signs of decay, cracking, wear, and discolouration. The gums, soft tissues, tongue, palate, and throat are also evaluated for signs of gum disease, oral infections, and oral cancer.
Periodontal assessment
We use a fine probe to gently measure the depth of the pockets between your teeth and gums. Pocket depths above 3mm may indicate the beginning of gum disease. Early detection allows us to treat gum disease before it causes irreversible damage.
X-rays
Digital X-rays allow us to see between teeth, below the gumline, and inside the bone — areas invisible to the naked eye. They are essential for detecting cavities between teeth, bone loss, cysts, and impacted teeth. X-rays are taken at intervals appropriate to your risk level.
Bite and jaw assessment
We assess your bite, jaw joints, and muscles for signs of clenching, grinding, or TMJ problems.
Oral cancer screening
Every exam includes a visual screening for early signs of oral cancer in the soft tissues of the mouth and throat.
Even the most diligent brusher and flosser cannot remove all plaque and tartar. Plaque that is not removed within 24 hours hardens into tartar (calculus) — a mineral buildup that only a dental hygienist’s instruments can remove. A professional cleaning includes:
Most patients benefit from a checkup and cleaning every six months. However, patients with gum disease, a high risk of cavities, or other ongoing dental concerns may benefit from more frequent appointments — every three to four months. Your dentist will recommend a schedule based on your individual needs.
We recommend a child’s first dental visit by age one or when the first tooth appears. Early visits build positive associations with the dental office, let us monitor development, apply preventive treatments (fluoride and sealants), and educate parents on home care for young teeth.
We accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), which covers routine exams and cleanings for eligible Canadians. We also accept most major insurance plans. We serve families from Langley, Walnut Grove, Willowbrook, Fort Langley, Brookswood, Aldergrove, and the broader Fraser Valley.
