Custom Dentures in Langley, BC

Modern dentures are more comfortable, more natural-looking, and better-fitting than the older designs many people associate with the word. At North Langley Family Dental, we provide custom-fitted partial and full dentures for patients in Langley, Walnut Grove, Willowbrook, Fort Langley, and the surrounding Fraser Valley — helping restore your smile, your ability to eat comfortably, and your confidence.

Partial Dentures

A partial denture is used when some natural teeth remain. It consists of a metal or acrylic framework with artificial teeth that clips or clasps onto existing teeth. A partial denture fills the gaps left by missing teeth, prevents remaining teeth from shifting, and restores chewing function.

Full (Complete) Dentures

A full denture replaces all the teeth in the upper arch, lower arch, or both. Full dentures rest on the gum tissue and are held in place by the natural suction of the gum ridges and, if needed, denture adhesive.

The Denture Process

Getting well-fitting custom dentures requires a series of appointments to ensure precise fit and a natural appearance:

  • Initial exam and impressions — We take measurements and impressions and assess the condition of your remaining teeth and gums
  • Bite registration and shade selection — We record how your jaws relate to each other and select tooth shades to match your natural appearance
  • Try-in appointment — A wax model of the denture is tried in so you can see the fit and aesthetics before the final denture is made
  • Delivery and adjustments — The final denture is fitted, and follow-up adjustments are made to ensure comfort and proper bite

Immediate Dentures

If you are having teeth extracted, an immediate denture can be placed the same day as your extractions so you are never without teeth during healing. Immediate dentures require more frequent adjustments during the healing period as the gum tissue and bone reshape. A reline or new denture may be needed after healing is complete.

Implant-Supported Dentures

For patients who want a more stable, comfortable alternative to conventional dentures, implant-supported dentures snap securely onto dental implants placed in the jawbone. This eliminates the slipping, clicking, and dietary restrictions associated with conventional dentures, and also helps preserve the jawbone.

Caring for Your Dentures

Remove and rinse dentures after eating. Brush them daily with a soft-bristle denture brush and mild denture cleaner (not regular toothpaste, which is too abrasive). Soak dentures overnight in water or a denture solution to prevent warping. Visit us regularly — even without natural teeth, oral exams are important for checking gum and bone health and ensuring your denture continues to fit properly.

We accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) and most major dental insurance plans. We serve denture patients from Langley, Walnut Grove, Willowbrook, Fort Langley, Brookswood, Aldergrove, and across the Fraser Valley.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get used to dentures?

Most patients adapt to new dentures within 4–8 weeks. During this time, you may notice increased saliva production, slight changes in speech, and some tenderness. These are temporary. Follow-up adjustment appointments are a normal part of the process and will improve comfort and fit.

Can I sleep with my dentures in?

We recommend removing your dentures at night to allow the gum tissue to rest and reduce the risk of irritation and bacterial buildup. Store them in water or a denture solution overnight.

How often should dentures be replaced?

Dentures typically need to be replaced or relined every 5–10 years. Over time, the jawbone and gum tissue change shape, causing dentures to fit less well. A poorly fitting denture can cause sore spots and accelerate bone loss. Regular exams allow us to monitor the fit and recommend relining or replacement when needed.

Are implant-supported dentures better than regular dentures?

Implant-supported dentures offer significantly better stability, comfort, and chewing ability than conventional dentures. They also help preserve the jawbone. They are more expensive upfront, but many patients find them well worth the investment for the improvement in quality of life.

Can I eat normally with dentures?

Most patients can eat a wide variety of foods with well-fitted dentures. We recommend starting with soft foods during the adjustment period. Very hard or sticky foods can dislodge or damage dentures and are best avoided or approached with care.

Does insurance cover dentures?

Most dental insurance plans include coverage for dentures as a major restorative procedure, typically 50% after deductible. The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) also includes denture coverage for eligible patients. We will review your coverage before treatment.
