A dental crown is one of the most versatile and reliable restorative treatments in dentistry. It protects a damaged tooth, restores its full shape and function, and can improve its appearance — all in one solution. At North Langley Family Dental, we provide custom-crafted dental crowns for patients in Langley, Walnut Grove, Willowbrook, Fort Langley, and the surrounding Fraser Valley.
A dental crown (also called a cap) is a custom-made restoration that fits over the entire visible portion of a tooth, from the gumline up. It is permanently cemented in place and functions just like a natural tooth crown. Crowns are fabricated from tooth-coloured porcelain, ceramic, or porcelain-fused-to-metal, depending on the location of the tooth and your aesthetic preferences.
Your dentist may recommend a crown in a number of situations:
Getting a dental crown at our Langley clinic typically requires two appointments:
First appointment — preparation: The tooth is numbed with local anaesthetic. A small amount of tooth structure is removed from all sides to create room for the crown. An impression (or digital scan) is taken and sent to the dental lab. A temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth while your permanent crown is being made — usually 1–2 weeks.
Second appointment — placement: The temporary crown is removed, and the permanent crown is tried in, adjusted for fit and bite, and cemented in place.
A well-made dental crown typically lasts 10–20 years or longer with proper care. Attending regular checkups allows us to monitor your crown and address any issues before they become problems.
We serve crown patients from across Langley, including Walnut Grove, Willowbrook, Fort Langley, Brookswood, Aldergrove, and from Maple Ridge and Abbotsford.
