Same-Day Emergency Dental Care in Langley, BC

A dental emergency can happen at any time — and when it does, you need a dentist you can reach quickly. At North Langley Family Dental, we offer same-day emergency dental appointments for patients in Langley, Walnut Grove, Willowbrook, Fort Langley, and the surrounding communities. If you are in pain, call us at 604-888-6885 and we will do our best to see you the same day.

What Counts as a Dental Emergency?

Many patients are unsure whether their situation warrants an emergency appointment. If you are experiencing any of the following, call us right away:

  • Severe or persistent toothache
  • A knocked-out (avulsed) tooth
  • A cracked, chipped, or fractured tooth causing pain
  • A lost filling or crown leaving the tooth sensitive or exposed
  • A dental abscess (swelling, pus, or a pimple on the gum near a tooth)
  • Swollen jaw or face (which may indicate spreading infection)
  • Broken or damaged dentures or dental appliances causing pain
  • Soft tissue injuries to the gums, tongue, or cheeks that are bleeding heavily

When in doubt, call us. We would rather reassure you over the phone than have you wait while a problem worsens.

What to Do in a Dental Emergency

Knocked-out tooth: Handle the tooth by the crown (not the root), gently rinse it with clean water, and try to reinsert it into the socket if possible. If you cannot, store it in milk or between your cheek and gum and get to our office immediately. Time is critical — the sooner the tooth is reimplanted, the better the chance of saving it.

Cracked or chipped tooth: Rinse your mouth with warm water. If there is swelling, apply a cold pack to the outside of the face. Avoid chewing on the affected side and call us immediately.

Lost filling or crown: Dental cement from a pharmacy can temporarily protect the exposed tooth until you reach us. Do not use super glue. Call us to book an emergency appointment as soon as possible.

Dental abscess: Do not ignore swelling near a tooth — an abscess is a bacterial infection that will not resolve on its own. In severe cases it can spread to other tissues. Call us immediately and do not apply heat to the area.

Pain Relief While You Wait

Over-the-counter pain relievers (ibuprofen or acetaminophen at the recommended dose) can help manage dental pain temporarily. Applying a cold pack to the outside of the cheek for 15 minutes at a time can help reduce swelling and pain. Avoid placing aspirin directly on gum tissue, as this can cause a chemical burn.

After-Hours Dental Emergencies

If you are experiencing a life-threatening situation such as severe facial swelling, difficulty breathing, or difficulty swallowing, go to the nearest emergency room immediately. For non-life-threatening dental emergencies outside of our regular office hours, please call our office at 604-888-6885 and follow the instructions on our voicemail.

Preventing Dental Emergencies

While not all emergencies are preventable, you can reduce your risk by:

  • Wearing a custom sports mouth guard during contact sports
  • Wearing a night guard if you grind your teeth
  • Keeping up with regular checkups to catch cracked or weakened teeth before they break
  • Avoiding biting hard objects such as ice, pen caps, or hard candy
  • Not using your teeth as tools to open packages

At North Langley Family Dental, we serve emergency patients from across Langley Township, including Walnut Grove, Willowbrook, Fort Langley, Brookswood, Aldergrove, and patients coming from Maple Ridge and Abbotsford.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept walk-in emergency patients?

We do our best to accommodate same-day emergency appointments. We recommend calling ahead at 604-888-6885 so we can prepare for your arrival and ensure a dentist is available to see you promptly. Walk-ins are welcome when space allows.

Is a toothache a dental emergency?

A persistent or severe toothache should always be evaluated by a dentist as soon as possible. Toothaches can indicate a cavity, cracked tooth, gum infection, or abscess — all of which require professional treatment and can worsen without care.

What should I do if I knock out a tooth?

Act quickly. Rinse the tooth gently with clean water, try to reinsert it into the socket, or store it in milk. Call us at 604-888-6885 immediately. The window for reimplanting a knocked-out tooth is usually 30–60 minutes, so speed is essential.

Can a dental abscess be dangerous?

Yes. A dental abscess is a bacterial infection that will not go away without professional treatment. In some cases, the infection can spread to the jaw, neck, or other areas and become a serious medical emergency. If you have facial swelling, fever, or difficulty swallowing, seek emergency care immediately.

What if my crown or filling falls out on a weekend?

Call our office — we check messages regularly and will advise you on next steps. Dental cement from a pharmacy can temporarily protect the tooth until we can see you. Avoid chewing on the side of the mouth where the restoration was lost.

Does emergency dental treatment cost more?

Emergency appointments may involve examination, X-rays, and immediate treatment depending on the situation. We accept most major dental insurance plans and the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP). Our team will explain all costs before any treatment is performed.
